Chevrolet RWD 4L60E transmission
Chevrolets most popular transmission is the 4L60E used in multiple applications over the years. Starting with the 700R4 back in late 80’s, this transmission is seen all the way up to 2010 with changes progressively through the years. Used in rear wheel drive applications such as silverado, Tahoe, Yukon, escalade, avalanche, camaro, blazer, S10 and many others, this is a very common transmission, which also happens to commonly frequent transmission repair facilities. Most common issues with this transmission is 3rd gear failure caused by an overheated 3-4 clutch pack, will shift fine from first to second and almost feel like its going into freewheel neutral when attempting to shift from 2nd into 3rd. Other issues such as no reverse, missing 2nd and 4th(shifts from 1st to 3rd), grinding noise in first gear can all point towards needing a rebuild of your transmission.
